Caperdonich 30 years old - Small Batch Release - Original bottling - b. 2021 - 70cl

The closed Scottish Caperdonich distillery presented as many as six single malts as part of the Secret Speyside Collection - three with a peaty character and three without smoky notes. The 30-year-old, bottled at 48% alcohol, has a sweet honey aroma with a fresh pineapple flavor on the palate and a long, sweet and smooth finish. Caperdonich without peat is a single malt with strength straight from the barrels. The only available batches from a now closed distillery will certainly tempt many malt whiskey lovers. Caperdonich was built across the road from Glen Grant to expand production. Following the so-called The Pattison crash saw many Speyside distilleries close, including Caperdonich. The distillery's malt house and warehouses continued to be used to provide resources for Glen Grant, but the stills remained dormant until 1965. At this point the distillery was reopened and expanded with two new stills added to increase demand during the whiskey boom of the 1960s and 1970s. In 1977, Seagram bought the distillery and changed the name to Caperdonich. The distillery operated until Pernod Ricard bought it in 2001, and then ceased production. The distillery stills were fired again to distill whiskey for the Secret Speyside Collection. The Caperdoni whiskey was intended to match the flavor profile of its sister distillery, Glen Grant. The distillery was created more as an extension of the parent brand than as a separate operation. Caperdoni's profile, however, is subtle but distinctly different. It is a light, floral style with a fairly cream background. The fruitiness is earthier than that of Glen Grant whisky, but the alcohol still has a pear and apple character. There is also a hint of herbs under the fruit. Even though Caperdonich distillery releases were used more often in Scottish blends than in independent bottlings, the brand gained a loyal group of fans. Thanks to the Secret Speyside Collection series, even more lovers of amber spirits have a chance to get acquainted with this unique whiskey. Pleasant, sweet and enveloping, Caperdoni whiskey presents the refined and delicate side of the Speyside region. The palette includes accents of fruit and herbs that are classic for these areas. Aroma: juicy apples and sweet pear, toast dipped in honey and herbs from the garden Taste: fruit cocktail, buttery croutons, mint, rosemary and honey Finish: sweet, fruity and quite long Collector's Edition.
