Recognized internationally for the quality of his work and the dynamism of his paintings, today, Didier Spindler is an integral part of painters of Essaouira.

Installed in the city of trade winds for many years, this artist has made the crazy bet to mix his passion for art with the great outdoors and his interest in Moroccan culture. We know Didier Spindler's attraction to "large formats" so it is only natural that his paintings and the incredible other objects of his artistic collection have found their place in the Dar Caravane. He successfully brought to Essaouira the colours of the West Indies, his main source of inspiration. We know Didier Spindler's attraction to "large formats" so it is only natural that his paintings and the incredible other objects of his artistic collection have found their place in the Dar Caravane. This guesthouse at the entrance to Essaouira (formerly the Mimosas) is a magical property located on the road to Agadir.

In Dar Caravane, Didier Spindler didn't just set up his shop or an art gallery, he was able to bring to Essaouira the colours of the West Indies, his main source of inspiration. In this unique Guesthouse, each of the 5 suites has an exotic name inspired by the artist's travels. It should come as no surprise to find a room called ‘Les Saintes,’ his visit to the West Indies was the turning point of his career as an artist. It was there that he was able to develop his style and become the accomplished artist we know today. It was after his stay in ‘Les Saintes’ that Didier Spindler chose Morocco to stop and the Majorelle Suite, in reference to the magnificent gardens of designer St Laurent, in Marrakech, is proof of this!

The large garden of the property has also become a great exhibition space to visit: around the corner of the pool, you will surely come across an angel playing music or a totem watching you with its big eyes, not to mention the large canvases signed Spindler hanging on the walls of the garden.

In the boutique space of Dar Caravane, we find the artistic universe of the artist. The Didier Spindler studio gallery in Essaouira is not only an exhibition space, it is also a boutique in which we find the colourful world of the artist. A merry "bazaar" where you can buy tunics, jewellery, bags, furniture, and other decorative objects or fashion accessories, not to mention Didier's paintings.

The Dar Caravane of Essaouira has an elegant terrace. A la carte gourmet plates inspired by world cuisines, the ideal place to have lunch in Essaouira.

But Didier Spindler has not finished to surprise us! To further highlight art, the works of the artists he meets, and offer Souiris and visitors a chic and colourful cultural space, Didier Spindler opened, on December 29, 2016, an art gallery in the medina, the Galerie Caravane. Located on the Istiqlal, the main avenue leading to the souks, and facing the alley of the Caravan Café, this unique artistic space will delight all aesthetes passing through Essaouira.
