Coptic Priests Hand Cross from Ethiopia, associated with the Amhara and Tigray Cultures.
Description from the seller
A substantial and finely crafted Ethiopian Orthodox priest's hand cross (blessing cross). This piece is a classic example of Highland Ethiopian Christian art, featuring intricate openwork and a hand-engraved commemorative inscription.
The object has a silvery appearance and metallic luster. It is crafted from a traditional white metal alloy. This type of material was historically used in Ethiopia for liturgical items, often achieving its silvery tone through the inclusion of various base metals or melted-down high-grade coinage. (Please note: the yellowish tint in some photos is due to indoor lighting; the object is silvery in person).
The inscription appears to read "My Protector is Jesus the Nazarene. Amen."
The cross shows authentic signs of age and long-term liturgical use. There is visible smoothing and softening of the engraved lines (wear marks), particularly on the handle and edges, which confirms its history as a used ritual object.
Excellent antique condition. Honest wear consistent with its age. No structural damage or modern repairs.
Will be adequately packaged and shipped with with Track & Trace.
