Description from the seller
Large Oak Travel Chest / Campaign Trunk – Brass Mounted – Named "A. Stornebrink" – Netherlands – ca. 1850–1880
An impressive and highly decorative 19th-century oak travel chest, dating from approximately 1850–1880.
This substantial chest is crafted from solid oak and features hand-cut dovetail construction throughout, demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship associated with quality travel and storage chests of the period. The chest retains its original brass corner protectors, brass carrying handles and lock escutcheon.
The lid bears a brass nameplate engraved "A. Stornebrink", adding historical character and suggesting private ownership during the 19th century.
The warm honey-coloured oak has developed a rich patina over many decades, making the chest particularly attractive as both a collector's item and an interior statement piece. It can serve equally well as a blanket chest, coffee table, hall chest or decorative storage trunk.
Condition is very good considering its age. The chest shows honest signs of use, surface wear, scratches and a historic shrinkage crack consistent with a genuine antique piece. These imperfections contribute to its authenticity and character.
A beautiful and increasingly sought-after example of a 19th-century oak travel chest.
Dimensions
Length: 100 cm
Depth: 44 cm
Height: 42 cm
Condition
Good antique condition with age-related wear, scratches, patina and minor historic repairs consistent with over 140 years of use.
