ntsoko の短剣は北東部のモンゴ族、具体的にはンガンドゥ族・サカ族・ラリア族・クル族に由来します。モンゴ複合体の鍛冶職人はこのような葉形のナイフを非常に多様なラインで制作しており、これもその一例です。主に名誉の武器として用いられることが多い一方で、戦闘にも使用され得たとされます。 Westerdijk は、これらのナイフは「サカ族とその隣接する地域のすべての成人男性の手元にあった」と主張しています（Elsen, De Fer et De fierté, 2003；Westerdijk, African Metal Implements, 1984）。
