産地： Mats Sigelfeldt - スウェーデンの旧コレクション
歴史的にはザンデ族およびNzakaraの先進軍による武器として使用されてきたこのタイプのナイフ、kpinga は20世紀には時代遅れとなり、実用品としてよりも象徴的な道具へと移行しました。儀式で祖先を称える際に使われ、力ある男性の葬儀にも用いられ、亡くなった人の墓の上に投げ入れられたり埋葬されたりすることもありました。権力の強力な象徴として、貴族の所持品とされ、倉庫に大切に保管されていることが多かったのです。自宅にkpingaを所有する特権を持つ男性はごくわずかでした（Westerdijk著『The African Throwing Knife』1988年）
