Hasegawa Hakuhō hailed from a distinguished Kyoto lineage of traditional artisans and was active from the late Taishō era through the mid-to-late Shōwa era, standing as a prominent figure in the Japanese craft world of his time. His works were frequently selected for—and won awards at—prestigious venues such as the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition and the Kyoto Prefecture Crafts Exhibition. Furthermore, several of his pieces were designated as Imperial Household requisites by the Imperial Household Agency, making him one of the select few Kyoto ceramists to receive official recognition from the Imperial Family. His original "Tetsuryūsai"  technique employs a lustrous iron glaze as its base; through the transformative effects of kiln firing, a white glaze is allowed to flow naturally across the surface, forming a pattern of scattered dots reminiscent of falling meteors. This technique harmoniously blends the rustic simplicity of *wabi-sabi* aesthetics with the dynamic vitality of modern craftsmanship.
This particular bowl features a wide, open mouth and a gracefully curving profile. Its glaze is bright and lustrous, while the flowing, dotted patterns within the interior appear natural and distinct—marking it as a quintessential masterpiece from the artist's mature period. The piece bears the artist's signature on the base and is accompanied by its original wooden presentation box and the artist's biographical dossier.
