中世ヨーロッパのシグネットリング – 中世ヨーロッパ – 紀元後12世紀〜15世紀
青銅製のシグネットリングで、楕円形の小さなベゼルには十字形のモチーフが彫られ、周囲に花や幾何学模様があしらわれています。この種の指輪は中世ヨーロッパ全体で庶民の識別符号や信仰・権威・家族の結びつきの象徴として広く着用されていました。彫刻デザインは、所有者が封蝋を使用した文書や手紙に recognizable（識別可能な）印を押印できるようにしていたと考えられます。
このリングは頑丈な輪と高く盛り上がったベゼルが特徴で、中世の職人技に典型的な、シンプルでありながら実用的なデザインを示します。表面は深い濃褐色の錆色（パティナ）を帯び、経年と長期の使用に伴う擦れの痕が見られます。彫刻された装飾は良好に残っており、 authentic（本物の）中世の個人品として歴史的な魅力を高めています。
