───────
This elegant Japanese lacquerware fubako (文箱, document box) features an elaborate gold maki-e design of a hawk perched on a pine tree, set against a deep black urushi lacquer ground.
The composition is richly decorated with finely detailed feathers and pine needles, executed using delicate gold powder techniques. The dynamic posture of the hawk combined with the flowing pine branches creates a strong sense of movement and traditional symbolism.
In Japanese art, the hawk symbolizes strength and vigilance, while the pine tree represents longevity and resilience.
Although produced during the late Shōwa period, the piece retains a modern sensibility and decorative versatility, making it suitable for both traditional Japanese interiors and contemporary settings.
The interior is finished in smooth black lacquer, maintaining a clean and elegant appearance.
