タイノ族のサーペンタイン像 – ドミニカ共和国 – 紀元後10世紀から15世紀
精巧に彫られたタイノの像は、濃色の蛇紋岩質の石で作られており、長く誇張された円錐形の頭飾りと特徴的な顔立ちを備えた高度にスタイライズされた人型の姿を描いています。大きなアーモンド形の目、突出した鼻、開いた口、そして丁寧に刻まれた facial lines は、タイノの宗教像に特徴的な力強い儀式的表情を生み出します。優雅な比率と磨かれた仕上げは、グレータ・アンティル諸島の高度なラピダリ技法を示しています。
この像は抽象的な幾何学と象徴的表現を組み合わせており、タイノ文化における zemí imagery の精神的役割を反映しています。とりわけ頭飾りの両側に刻まれた楕円紋様と、磨かれた表面の卓越した保存状態が注目されます。こうしたタイプの彫像は、祖先崇拝・儀式的実践、およびタイノ共同体における社会的・霊的権威の表現と結びつけられていました。
