タイノ族の人型偶像 – ドミニカ共和国 – 紀元後10世紀〜15世紀
高く磨き上げられた黒石で巧みに彫られたタイノ族の人型偶像で、長く伸びた頭部、くちばしのように突出した facial features、そして胴体に寄り添うように折りたたまれた腕を描く stylized な立像です。ミニマリストでありながら力強いこの造形は、グレータ・アンティル諸島のタイノ族の独自の美術伝統を反映しており、この種の像は霊的信仰、祖先崇拝、 zemís の崇拝と密接に結びついていました。人間の形を緻密に保った比率と抽象的な処理は、タイノの職人たちが達成した優れた彫刻的高度を示しています。
像は密度の高い黒色の石から彫刻されており、おそらく黒蛇紋石または磨耗した玄武岩で、長年の研磨と歳月を経て生じた光沢のある表面を示しています。頭部・胴体・四肢には刻まれた線状の装飾が強調され、目と肩には円形のくぼみが刻まれています。彫像は現在も良好に保存されており、かなりの古さに相応しい軽度の表面摩耗や年齢による痕跡のみが見られます。コンパクトな寸法と洗練された作りは、儀式用タイノ石彫の優れた代表例として高く評価されます。
