パリですでにBugattiはアフリカの象に強く魅了されていた。アントワープでは壮麗なエジプト神殿を模した展示場で、アジア象の仲間を観察する機会を得た。Bugattiはほぼ毎日そこを訪れ、感受性豊かな鼻でおねだりをする巨象たちと楽しく交流していた。

Al in Parijs raakte Bugatti bijzonder gefascineerd door de Afrikaanse olifanten bij het Jardin des Plantes.
In Antwerpen kreeg hij ruim de gelegenheid om hun Aziatische soortgenoten te bestuderen in hun spectaculaire verblijf in de vorm van een Egyptische tempel. 
Bugatti was er bijna dagelijks te vinden, en voerde er met plezier de bedelende reuzen met hun gevoelige slurf.
