Description from the seller
item description
This is a striking Japanese Rantai Shikki — bamboo-core lacquerware basket vase, crafted in the traditional style of Kurume, marked with the maker's gold-leaf label "九籃"(Kuran)。
The piece features an intricately woven bamboo lattice body, finished with a deep black lacquer accented by vivid red (negoro-style) highlights peeking through the woven gaps. Two looped handles with decorative ring pulls are attached to the shoulder, adding both function and visual interest. The interior is fitted with a cylindrical liner, suitable for use as a flower vase (ikebana) or decorative basket.
The open, diamond-weave pattern of the body creates a beautiful interplay of light and shadow, making this piece a wonderful decorative object for a Japanese-style or eclectic interior. The contrast of glossy black lacquer with flashes of red gives it a dramatic, refined presence.
A charming example of traditional Japanese craftsmanship, combining functional basketry techniques with the luxurious finish of lacquer work.
