A fine underglaze-blue and famille verte-enamelled dish with gilt decoration, Kangxi period (1662–1722), painted to the centre with a scholar carrying a qin (Chinese zither) while visiting a friend in a landscape setting, the central scene enclosed within floral borders and surrounded by further floral decoration to the rim. The palette, painting style and decorative scheme are characteristic of the Kangxi period.
