A Victorian ladies' dress cane dating to 1900–1910 with a gilt metal handle engraved with a floral basket motif and a warm honey-brown hardwood shaft, in good condition with age-related patina, height 83 cm, United Kingdom origin.
Description from the seller
slender hardwood shaft displays a warm honey-brown tone and graceful proportions, lending the cane an air of understated sophistication. Combining practical function with decorative appeal, such canes were often carried as stylish accessories during promenades and social occasions, complementing the elegant attire of the period.
The floral basket ornament and finely engraved decoration evoke the romantic aesthetic of the Belle Époque, making this an attractive example of a decorative ladies' cane from the closing years of the Victorian era.
A charming and highly decorative piece, well suited to collectors of antique walking sticks, ladies' accessories and Victorian decorative arts.
The cane presents well and displays an attractive age-related patina throughout. The gilt metal handle shows expected wear, rubbing and minor surface marks consistent with age and use. A small age-related split is present adjacent to the applied floral basket motif. The hardwood shaft displays light wear commensurate with age and remains structurally sound. Please refer to the photographs, which form an integral part of the description.
