中世にはラピスラズリは慎重に守られ、粉末を特別なオイルと組み合わせて砕くことで、当時非常に珍しかった青色を得るため、典型的な名称Azur-blau（アズール・ブルー）も付けられていました。これにより、この石は過去からすでに非常に珍しく特別な石とされてきました。現代においてもラピスラズリは高く評価されるヒー石であり、現代の室内装飾にも非常に人気があります。
夢のようなラピスラズリの標本で、含まれる鉱物の色が交互に現れ、独特の色の組み合わせが生まれます。
また、前面の着色はほぼ完全に青色で、全体を貫く夢のようにきらめくパイライトが貫通しています。
