ネヤリト地方の粘土座像、西部メキシコ、紀元2世紀から6世紀
精緻に手作りされた粘土像で、装飾的な冠状の頭飾り、表情豊かな顔つき、大きな耳輪を備え、躍動感のある姿勢をとっています。像は腕の中に物体または小さな人形を抱え、元の赤色顔料の痕跡をかなり残しており、特に頭飾りと体部に顕著です。古代または現代に修復されていても、構造的には安定しており、独立してもしっかりと立つため、ネヤリト式陶器彫刻の特有の表現豊かな作風と力強い造形を示しています。
この種の像は、西部メキシコの前古典期から初期古典期の伝統を象徴するもので、通常は竪穴墓の供物として安置されていました。
