Description from the seller
authentic Japanese vintage double-sided enamel advertising sign for SKILCO (スキルコ) rubber footwear, featuring an eye-catching Art Deco-inspired design from the early Showa era.
The sign displays the bold white 「スキルコ」 (SKILCO) logo on a vivid red band over a deep cobalt blue background. Below appears the slogan 「新気楽」, conveying a sense of comfort and lightness associated with the footwear.
The lower inscription reads:
東京株式会社 鳥居商店
indicating the Tokyo-based company Torii Shoten Co., Ltd., which distributed or sold the product.
The sign features a gently curved steel body, a distinctive feature often found on Japanese enamel shop signs from the 1930s to 1950s, allowing it to stand out prominently when mounted on storefronts.
Both sides retain outstanding gloss and vibrant colors. Minor scratches and signs of age are present, but the enamel remains remarkably well preserved.
This is an original period advertising sign and not a modern reproduction.
Estimated period: circa 1930s–1950s
Material: Enamel on curved steel
Dimensions
* Width: 45.5 cm
* Height: 30.5 cm
Condition
* Double-sided
* Original enamel finish
* Curved construction
* Excellent gloss and color retention
* Minor scratches and age wear
* Very attractive display condition
The elegant typography, strong blue-and-red contrast, and curved profile make this piece a highly desirable example of Japanese vintage advertising art.
