Charmingly translate into Japanese: A charming kakejiku 掛け軸 (hanging scroll) featuring a painting of a gathering of red-crowned cranes 丹頂鶴 (tanchôzuru).
The composition depicts four pairs of cranes engaged in elegant courtship displays. Some perform their characteristic mating dances on the ground, while others mirror each other's movements in graceful flight. The birds are set within a tranquil landscape traversed by a gently meandering stream.
Cranes have long been revered in Japan as symbols of longevity, fidelity, and good fortune.
Executed in ink and colours on silk. The painting bears a four-character red seal in the lower left corner.
Mounted as a hanging scroll with a silk brocade mounting, restored at a later date.
