A set of Pierre Forssell candle holders for the Swedish manufacturer Skultuna. Skultuna (full name Skultuna Messingsbruk) is one of the oldest companies in the world and a traditional Swedish brand famous for its high-quality brassware. Founding: The company was founded as early as 1607 by King Karl IX of Sweden. It was originally intended to reduce Sweden's dependence on brass imports. Royal Warrant: Since its inception, Skultuna has been an official purveyor to the Royal Court of Sweden. Design Focus: While the company primarily produced functional items for churches and households (such as chandeliers) in its early years, it began collaborating with famous designers in the 20th century. Besides Pierre Forssell (who designed the Tulip candlesticks), this includes icons like Sigvard Bernadotte or modern studios like GamFratesi.
Material: Skultuna is world-renowned for its craftsmanship in solid brass. The products are often polished to achieve a gold-like shine, though they can develop a characteristic patina over time.
Location: The factory is still located today in the town of Skultuna near Västerås, where there is also a museum dedicated to the company's history.
