Product Description

Traditional Craft: Statue of Kobo Daishi (774–835)—also known as Kukai—in a *zushi* (portable shrine/cabinet); seated figure; associated with Kongobu-ji Temple.
An item handed down through an old temple in the Tokai region.

Kukai was a monk of the Heian period and the founder of the Shingon sect of Buddhism; he was posthumously awarded the title "Kobo Daishi."
