中国 Painted Pottery Equestrian Figure, Tang Dynasty
この彩色陶俑は、立つ馬にまたがる騎手が両手を前方へ伸ばして手綱を握っているように見える姿を描いています。馬は首をまっすぐ立て、脚は細く、矩形の台座の上で安定した構えをとっています。馬、鞍布、騎手には赤と白の顔料の痕跡が残っており、作品に力強い装飾的かつ歴史的な趣を与えています。
表面には土着の被膜、風化、顔料の喪失、摩耗、老化に伴う欠点が見られます。この種の騎乗陶俑は、埋葬品として一般的に作られており、旅・地位・守護・来世での奉仕を象徴します。全体の形は、古代中国の騎馬文化と葬送美術を反映しています。
