La Fluorite è la forma minerale del fluoruro di calcio e, nel corso della storia, è stata impiegata da molti popoli e culture per la creazione di oggetti artistici. Le sue impurità le conferiscono una gran varietà di colori, caratteristica che, in epoca medievale, le è valsa il nome di fiore di pietra. Questo minerale è celebre per l'effetto chiamato  a cui dà il nome. Alcune sue varietà, infatti, brillano sotto la luce UV.
