A Large Bronze Penannular Cuff Bracelet, Hallstatt Culture, Central Europe, circa 12th - 8th Century B.C.
Impressive wide bronze cuff bracelet of open (penannular) form, featuring a broad, gently curved band richly decorated with finely incised geometric motifs: herringbone patterns, concentric circles, dotted lines and chevrons. The terminals are slightly thickened and rounded. The piece displays a beautiful deep green patina with areas of lighter encrustation, highlighting the detailed ornamentation.
Bracelets of this type and elaborate decoration are characteristic of the Hallstatt culture (Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age), associated with early Celtic-speaking peoples of Central Europe. They were prestigious items of personal adornment, often found in high-status burials.
