Description from the seller
Baccarat Crystal Powder Box “Diamants Biseaux”
France, circa 1903–1904
A refined example of early 20th-century French crystal craftsmanship, this elegant powder box was produced by Baccarat as part of the celebrated “Diamants Biseaux” toilette collection. Designed in a graceful spherical form, the piece is richly decorated with a finely pressed geometric diamond pattern that brilliantly captures and reflects light, showcasing the exceptional quality for which Baccarat became renowned.
Made of pressed crystal, the box demonstrates the remarkable precision of Baccarat’s moulding techniques at the turn of the century. The crisp relief, perfectly defined facets, and excellent optical clarity illustrate the factory’s ability to elevate pressed crystal to the level of luxury decorative art.
The powder box is signed “Baccarat” on both the lid and the base, an important feature confirming its authenticity. It is further documented in the 1903–1904 Baccarat “Tarif des Articles de Toilette” catalogue, where it appears as model T115 – “Boîte à poudre forme boule à bouton” (“Powder box, spherical form with knop”), providing unquestionable historical provenance.
More than a century after its creation, this piece remains both a functional vanity object and a beautifully preserved example of Belle Époque design—an elegant addition to any Baccarat collection or refined interior.
Baccarat is one of the most prestigious crystal manufacturers in the world, founded in 1764 in the village of Baccarat, in northeastern France, under the patronage of King Louis XV. Originally a glassworks producing window panes, mirrors, and stemware, the factory shifted to crystal production in 1816, quickly gaining international acclaim for the clarity and brilliance of its creations.
By the 19th century, Baccarat had become synonymous with luxury and refinement, supplying royal courts and aristocracy across Europe, Russia, and the Middle East. The company showcased its masterpieces at the great World Exhibitions in Paris and became known for its innovation in cut crystal designs, chandeliers, and tableware.
Today, Baccarat remains a symbol of French excellence in fine crystal, blending centuries-old craftsmanship with contemporary design, while its antique pieces—like early 20th-century stemware—are highly prized by collectors worldwide.
