Description from the seller
-Origin: Spain.
-Manufacturer: ALCOR. A brand recognized for the quality of its silver-plated pieces.
-Period: approx. 1900-1930.
-Style: Historicist with Art Nouveau touches. The overall design evokes the opulence of Baroque and Neoclassical styles, especially in the foliate and curled forms of the arms and the fluted base. However, the clean lines of the central column and the volumetric treatment of the elements reveal the influence of the Art Nouveau aesthetic of its time.
-Material: Silver-plated alpaca (German silver, or Maillechort in France).
-Technique: The piece is crafted using a combination of silversmithing techniques, including casting for the base and arms, and detailed repoussé and chiseling for the decorative motifs, such as the leaves on the arms and the fluting on the base. The finish is a high-quality, mirror-polished silver plating.
- Hallmarks/Marks: The piece features excellent and rigorous hallmarking that guarantees its collectable quality:
*On the sole (reverse of the base): It displays the main hallmark of the manufacturer "AL⦾COR", accompanied by the indication "SPAIN" and the serial or lot number "2".
*On the body (central column): As an added value, a second heraldic hallmark or workshop mark is found in relief at the top of the column (marked with a yellow circle in the photo and shown in detail in the following photo). These types of secondary marks were used by master silversmiths of the period as a quality guarantee seal in the casting or assay of the thickness of the silver plating, confirming the premium character and the care taken in the manufacture of this object.
Measurements:
*Total Height: 34.5 cm.
*Total Width (between opposite lights): 30 cm.
*Interior Width (between closest lights): 25 cm.
*Base Diameter: 14.7 cm
*Outer Diameter of the Candle Holders (Candle Dishes): 7.4 cm
*Inner Diameter of the Candle Holders: 5.4 cm
Condition and State of Preservation:
*The candelabra is in very good condition, considering its age, with signs of use and patina consistent with the photos and its age.
Use and Decoration:
This candelabra is not only a functional object, but a true piece of decorative art. Its height and 5-light design make it ideal as a centerpiece for formal dinners, above a fireplace, on a console in the entryway, or on a sideboard in the dining room. Its luster and foliate shapes will capture the light spectacularly, whether with lit candles or displayed as a sculptural piece.
This is a unique opportunity to acquire a collector's item from ALCOR silversmiths. Its combination of high-quality material (silver alpaca), sophisticated historicist design and excellent condition make it a safe investment in beauty and elegance for your home.
