中国産の painted terracotta guardian または戦士像で、立ち姿を保ち、装飾された盾を掲げている。頭巾または兜を着け、上衣は短く、下には長い袷またはパンツを着ている。顔には白色顔料が残っており、体や盾には赤、灰色、土色の装飾が見られる。盾は単純な幾何模様で飾られており、作品に強い古拙さと軍事的な性格を与えている。
簡略化された facial features（顔の特徴）、直立した姿勢、彩色面、護盾は、北朝時代の中国の葬送陶器像に関連するスタイルを示唆しており、特に北魏末から北斬時代（Northern Wei to Northern Qi）に属する。こうした像は、墓へ守護者や随従者として置かれることが多く、来世の保護、身分、奉仕を象徴していた。
