1 exceptional and rare piece
Hutian Kiln Celadon Octagonal Melon-Shaped Ewer
Description:
A Northern Song Dynasty Hutian Kiln celadon octagonal melon-shaped ewer, with its original lid intact. The body is divided into eight melon-shaped lobes, with a straight neck, curved spout, and bridge-shaped handle formed in one piece, exhibiting a robust and elegant form. The body is coarse grayish-white, with exposed clay at the foot showing natural flint-red patina; the entire piece is covered in a pale celadon glaze, the surface of which is covered with fine, old crackles, and has a thick, aged patina.
This piece can be traced back to the Northern Song Dynasty, approximately 960-1127 AD, and was made by Chinese hands. The exposed clay reveals its material and production date.
Condition:
Good condition, with signs of use. There is residual glaze on the body, caused by kiln firing. The spout has some debris. There are no signs of repair. It has been examined with strong UV light. (Please see photos if the text is not clear enough.)
