Original Wajima lacquer chinkin natsume tea caddy by Mae Shigeo, a round black wooden body decorated with autumn maple leaves and cherry blossoms in fine chinkin, 7 cm high, 7 cm wide, 7 cm deep, weight 50 g, with the original signed wooden storage box, authentic and in good condition.
Description from the seller
アイテム説明
refined Wajima-nuri natsume — a lidded tea caddy used in the Japanese tea ceremony (chado) — decorated in the delicate chinkin technique by Mae Shigeo, a lacquer artist from Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, who trained directly under his uncle, the Living National Treasure Mae Taihō.
The rounded, drum-shaped body is finished in deep black lacquer and adorned with a scattering of autumn maple leaves and cherry blossoms rendered in fine chinkin line-work, filled with gold and reddish-gold powder to create a warm, layered palette against the glossy black ground. The interior of both the lid and body is finished in plain black lacquer. The base bears the artist's engraved signature in gold.
The piece is accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako), inscribed by the artist, along with a printed paper documenting the artist's exhibition history and awards — including selections at the Nitten-affiliated craft exhibitions, the Japan Traditional Kōgei Exhibition, and awards from the Chile Art Society and the Mayor of Wajima.
A beautiful, collectible example of traditional Wajima lacquer craftsmanship, equally suited for display or for use with matcha tea.
