クラウディオ・カスティリオーニがもしエリック・ビュールが1986年に何を企んでいたのか（そしてその逆も）知っていたら、この物語の結末は全く違っていたかもしれない。ビュールがスポーツバイクをクルーザーモーターの周りに組み立てようとしていたのに対し、イタリアの起業家はスポーツバイクのモーターを周りに据えたクルーザーでアメリカ市場へ侵入しようと計画していた。後者の実験は市場では失敗に終わったものの、競合を容易に凌駕する魅力的で完成度の高いバイクを生み出し、欧州寄りの雰囲気で華やかさの一線を引くプロダクトとなった。

タンクの名に Ducati Indiana とあるが、実際には Ducati が作ったのではなく、カジーヴァが作った。1950年にヴァレーゼ（ヴァレーゼ）でジョヴァンニ・カスティリオーニによって創業された会社、カジーヴァ（CAstiglioni-GIovanni-VArese）は電子機器で財を成していたが、1978年、ジョヴァンニの2人の息子クラウディオとジャンフランコの指揮の下、二輪車の製造を始め、ハーレーダビッドソンの旧アエルマキ工場の残骸を買収した。
Ducati Indiana は1986年から1988年まで製造された。
これはクルーザーモデルで、通常のDucのものとはかなり異なる。650 Pantah エンジンは空冷で、伝統的な90度Vツイン、 Desmodronic 的バルブ機構を採用している。出力設定は控えめ。
改良されたダブルループ鋼管フレームにより、直立したライディングポジションを実現している。タンク容量は13リットルで十分。
