1888年、瀬戸内海の沿岸・明石市に創業した江井ヶ嶋蒸留所は、創業1679年の日本でも有数の酒造会社エイガシマ社が所有しています。1919年、江井ヶ嶋は日本で初めてウイスキーの製造許可を取得した蒸留所となりました。ウイスキーの消費は1984年まで地元だけに限られていました。スコットランド式を取り入れて建てられた蒸留所は、30年以上にわたり小ロットで高度なウイスキーを作り続けています。ウイスキーのほか、江井ヶ嶋は日本酒や焼酎などさまざまなリキュールの製造でも知られています。さらに同社はブドウを栽培し、自家製のワインも作るようになりました。
