Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
A wooden, handcrafted Noh theatre figure of Matsukaze by Kazuyuki Nagata (永田一行), measuring 25.5 × 21 × 14.5 cm, dating to the 1970s–1980s, in fair condition with a removable mask and an original signed kiribako.
Description from the seller
Description:
finely handcrafted Japanese Noh theatre figure depicting Matsukaze (松風), one of the most celebrated female roles in the classical Noh repertoire. Created by Kazuyuki Nagata (永田一行), the figure is dressed in richly patterned brocade robes inspired by traditional Heian court costume and holds a decorative folding fan. A distinctive feature is the removable Noh mask, allowing the sculpture to be displayed either with the serene carved face or wearing the elegant mask, reflecting the transformative nature of Noh performance. The detailed costume, braided cords, and finely carved wooden head demonstrate careful craftsmanship and a deep respect for Japan’s theatrical heritage. Accompanied by its original signed kiribako (paulownia wood box) inscribed 「松風 永田一行作」, this piece is preserved in very good condition with only light signs of age, making it an excellent addition to collections of Japanese traditional art, Noh theatre, or decorative dolls.
