ローマ時代のパテラ（浅型の皿）または青銅製の鍋・フライパンを完実に保持した取っ手。家庭用途だけでなく儀式にも用いられた浅い容器で、液体を盛り付け・注ぐために用いられ、儀礼の場では供物用にも使われました。
細長く実心で鋳出された取っ手は、最終的に finely モデル化された動物の頭部、恐らくキツネか犬を象った先端に終わります。長く突き出し、先端部に向かって先細りするマズルは動物をはっきりとキツネらしく見せ、頭部の眼の周りやその他のディテールは浮彫で表現されています。犬などの猟犬を含む動物の像頭部は、ローマの青銅器の装飾要素として繰り返し用いられました。
取っ手の湾曲した後部は、元来容器の縁や本体に取り付けるためのものでした。取っ手は別途鋳造され、その後容器に固定されました。付随する箱は現在は保存されていません。
