Provenance: Collected by the present owner
Description
A fine Fulani / Peul ring from West Africa, made from low-grade silver.
This example is especially appealing for its strong architectural form. The upper part is interpreted as representing a Sahelian mud-brick mosque, with six projecting minaret-like elements. The design is both compact and highly sculptural, giving the ring a strong presence despite its small size.
The shoulders of the ring are openworked, with triangular and lozenge-shaped openings that lighten the structure and add rhythm to the form. Fine incised lines complete the decoration, while the high central motif gives the object an almost miniature architectural character.
The surface shows a beautiful old usage patina, with darker areas in the recesses and softer rubbed highlights on the raised parts. This contrast emphasizes the relief and gives the ring a strong tactile quality.
A very attractive Fulani / Peul ring, appreciated for its architectural mosque-like motif, six minaret-like projections, old patina and strong sculptural presence.
Condition
Good condition overall, with wear, oxidation, rubbing, small marks and surface irregularities consistent with age and use.
Beautiful old usage patina.
Please refer to the photographs.
Included
The ring only.
The acrylic display support is not included.
