Description
A fine West African bronze bracelet, attributed to the Senufo cultural area.
Bracelets of this type belong to the broad corpus of copper-alloy ornaments from West Africa, where metal jewellery could function as personal adornment, prestige object and, in some contexts, stored value or exchange object.
This example is especially appealing for its compact, powerful form. The bracelet is open, with a thick rounded body and strongly curved profile. Its volume gives it a very tactile and sculptural presence.
The decoration is restrained but effective, composed of incised linear motifs and fine notched bands running along the outer section. These elements give rhythm to the surface without weakening the simplicity of the form.
The surface shows a beautiful old bronze patina, with warm brown tones, darker areas and traces of green oxidation in places. The high points are softened by handling, while the incised decoration remains visible.
A very attractive Senufo-attributed bracelet, appreciated for its strong rounded form, sober engraved decoration, old patina and presence as a West African metal ornament.
Condition
Good condition overall, with wear, oxidation, rubbing, small marks and surface irregularities consistent with age and use.
Beautiful old bronze patina with traces of oxidation.
Please refer to the photographs.
Included
The bracelet only.
The photographic support is not included.
