This bronze single-flower ichirin-zashi vase is handcrafted by Minekumo, a renowned master of Japan’s traditional Takaoka copper craft. It serves as a classic decorative flower vessel for wabi-sabi tea room display.

Takaoka Copperware is officially designated a Japanese traditional craft with a centuries-long heritage of metal casting. Minekumo is celebrated for his signature creative style that merges aged verdigris patina with gold leaf decoration. This long-neck ichirin-zashi vase is his iconic design, highly valued by collectors of Japanese metal flower vases.

The vase adopts an elegant crane-neck shape: a slender tapering long neck matches a smooth pear-shaped bulbous body with a flared rim, forming minimalist soft contours made specifically for single-bloom arrangements. The entire surface is treated with hand-rendered mottled teal verdigris patina featuring rich natural layers. Large areas of matte pure gold leaf are manually attached to the belly, generating a dramatic visual contrast between cool weathered bronze patina and warm gentle gold, combining rustic vintage texture with subtle elegant luxury.

The whole vessel is integrally cast by the traditional lost-wax method. A unique spiral casting texture remains on the base, where the artist’s cast workshop mark is also impressed. The dense bronze body has no connecting joints or welded seams, representing the premium craftsmanship standard of late modern Takaoka copperware.

This is an exclusive handmade work by metal craftsman Minekumo, bearing his dedicated maker’s mark cast on the base.

Minor surface oxidation and faint wear from long-term storage are present on the vessel. Slight natural fading can be seen along the edges of the gold leaf. The body has no dents, cracks or restorations. Overall the vase is in good condition relative to its production period.
