古代エジプトの銀製アミュレットで、翅を開いたハエの形をしている。
ハエの胴体は三角形の形で、縦と横の切り込みが施されている。
両側には三角形の翅があり、斜めの直線状の切り込みが施されている。
昆虫の解剖学的特徴は丁寧に描かれており、凸出した2つの目を含む。
裏面は滑らかで装飾がない。
上部には吊環がある。
表面には軽微な摩耗、土成分の付着、および表面の変色が見られる。
このようなハエのアミュレットの目的は不明であり、この記号について学者の間にはさまざまな仮説がある。
一部の人々は、ハエが戦場での敵の執念を連想させ、また血が流された戦場の周辺に現れやすい性質があることから、軍事的業績に対して授与されたと考える。
他方、この説には完全には同意せず、女性や執事の墓からもハエのアミュレットが出土しており、戦闘に従事していない個体も含まれている。
このアミュレットのもう一つの可能な意図は、所持者に対してハエの悪名高い繁殖力を授けることだった。
しかしこの記号の意味がいかに不確かであっても、ハエはヌビアからキプロスに至る多くの古代の近隣文化にも現れている。
