Description from the seller

Le Grand Leu, c.1950, gelatin-silver print, with copyright stamp of the photographer in red (verso).
In good condition, corner bumps, slight stains, one pin-hole (not affecting the picture) and slight clip marks. Please check the scans for details.

George-Henri (Henri George, 1919–2012) was a French photographer active in postwar Paris, best known for theatrical photography and portraits of actors, singers, and performers. During the 1940s and 1950s, he documented rehearsals, stage productions, dressing rooms, and specially arranged publicity sessions for Paris theatres. Working within the broader tradition of French theatrical and celebrity photography represented by studios and photographers such as Studio Harcourt, Roger Parry, Brassaï, and Lipnitzki, George-Henri combined documentary observation with the polished visual language of mid-century publicity imagery. His photographs preserve an important record of French stage, cinema, and entertainment culture in the postwar period.
