裏面に彫刻された象形文字を有する大型の古代エジプト産滑石製スカラブで、忌避的意味を持つと考えられる。表面は精緻に stylised された頭部と甲の鎧を有し、前胸と翅は線状の彫刻によって形成されている。前胸線の下、両側には小さな彫りがあり、肩部の瘤を示す。スカラブの側面は深く彫られ、羽毛の脚を表す波状の縁が施されている。裏面には様々な象形文字が刻まれており、上部には天空を意味する記号𓇯、続いて日光の記号𓇶とWasの杖𓌀が横一列に並び、下部には地平を表す記号𓈀が配置されている。スカラブは吊り下げ用に縦方向に貫通している。表面には地衣類の付着がある。縁には小さな欠けがある。
スカラブ蝋虫は古代エジプト美術において非常に人気のある象徴であり、太陽神ラーを表すと考えられていた。古代エジプト人は、蠢く排泄物の塊を砂漠に転がすスカラブ蝋虫が、日中の太陽が夜へと空を横断する旅路を映し出していると信じていた。蝋虫が排泄物の中に卵を産むことから、再生と新生の象徴ともなった。スカラブのアミュレットに刻まれた象形文字が呪符的な意味を持つことも珍しくなく、文を作る代わりに吉兆を招き、着用者を守る力を与える目的で刻まれることもあった。
