Changsha Kiln Ewer
Description:
This piece is a classic practical ewer from the Tongguan Kiln of the Tang Dynasty, a representative example of Tang Dynasty underglaze painting. It features a flared mouth, long neck, constricted neck, and full belly. One side has a short, multi-faceted spout, with an arched handle facing it. The shallow, flat bottom and simple proportions embody the standard form of Tang Dynasty folk wine ewers, seamlessly blending functionality and aesthetics.
This piece dates back to the Tang Dynasty, approximately 618-907 AD, and was made by Chinese hands. The materials and exposed clay reveal its material and production date.
Condition:
Fair condition, showing signs of use, cracks, and repairs. It has been examined with strong UV light. (Please see photos if the text is not clear enough.)
