Item Description
Magnificent Chrysanthemum Zogan Bronze Vase, Takaoka Copperware, by Gosho
A commanding masterpiece of Japanese metalwork. This substantial bronze vase, standing approximately 25 cm tall and weighing 1480 g, embodies the grandeur of traditional Japanese metal craftsmanship. The body is finished in a mottled forest-green and earthen-brown patina, against which an intricate chrysanthemum design stands out, executed in zogan (metal inlay) — grooves cut into the bronze surface and inlaid with contrasting gold- and silver-toned metals to form the flower's petals. The piece is signed by the artist Gosho (剛章) and produced in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, home to Takaoka Copperware, a 400-year-old metalworking tradition and Japan's first Nationally Designated Traditional Craft (1975).
