美しい古代エジプトのエジプト藍護符で、ハトホルの頭部の形をしています。護符はほぼ台形の形状を示し、女神の三日月形の顔、アーモンド形の目、瞳孔が小さく、長い鼻と口がまだはっきりと見える特徴的な顔立ちです。二つの牛の耳が水平に張り出し、細かな溝で装飾されています。長く段状のかつらを戴き、その上に平坦で長方形の冠を載せたもので、おそらくモディウス形と推定されます。冠には小さな縦溝が刻まれており、吊り下げ用の穴が開けられています。裏面はやや凸面で無地です。地表の付着物と、年齢に伴う摩耗の兆候（小さなピット痕や擦り傷など）も見られます。
エジプト人は他の宝飾品とともに護符を身につけていました。装飾的であると同時に実用的な役割を果たし、身につける者に力と保護を与えると考えられていました。多くの護符はミイラの包帯の内側から発見されており、死者を来世へ準備させるために用いられていました。ハトホル頭の護符は、新王国時代からギリシャ・ローマ時代にかけて人気がありました。愛と死者を守る女神ハトホルは、牛の耳を持つ女性として描かれ、端が渦巻き状に巻かれた特徴的で重厚なかつらを身に着けています。
