アンシエント・プレコルコルムブリアン・テキスタイル fragment from the Wari (Huari) culture - ペルー
Woven in camelid fiber and cotton tapestry weave on a vivid red ground.
The central decorative band depicts three stylized staff-holding figures or lords rendered in the classic Wari geometric manner, surrounded by complex stepped and abstract motifs in red, ochre, cream, green, and black.
Such imagery is associated with elite ceremonial textiles of the Wari culture, one of the great pre-Inca civilizations of the Andes.
A fine and visually striking fragment showing strong colors and intricate weaving.
With age-related wear, small losses, fraying, and minor holes consistent with great antiquity.
Framed, but easily removable.
Date: Ca. 600 - 1000 AD
Dimensions: 26 x 16 cm (for the textile only)
Provenance: purchased at a German auction - with copy of German export license
