NWA 17700 is a lunar meteorite (troctolite melt breccia) from Temara, Morocco, Northwest Africa, weighing 1.5 g and measuring 3.4 cm by 2 cm by 0.15 cm.

Purchased: 2025 Apr
Classification: Lunar meteorite (troctolite melt breccia)
History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Temara, Morocco.
Physical characteristics: Many grayish rocks some with minor fusion crust.
Petrography: Melt breccia predominantly composed of up to 4 mm sized anorthosite and melt clasts plus up to 0.8 mm sized olivine aggregates and fewer Ca-rich pyroxene grains set in abundant plagioclase-rich melt rock matrix. The matrix is partly glassy, partly recrystallized to small often lath-shaped plagioclase crystals. Olivine aggregates mostly consist of numerous smaller subgrains. Accessories include ilmenite, chromite, and troilite. No metal detected.
Geochemistry: olivine: Fa25.2±0.6 (Fa24.2-25.8, FeO/MnO=82±9; n=8); Ca-pyroxene: Fs22.8±1.1Wo11.6±3.0 (Fs21.7-24.2Wo9.2-18.0, FeO/MnO=48±4, n=7); calcic plagioclase: An96.3±0.3 (An95.8-96.7, n=7)
