宝石のような色調の漆塗り茶筒には、七福神が金蒔絵で施されています。
九室塗り技法による漆塗りで層を重ねる難しい工程—スパチュラと筆を使った塗り重ね—を経て、この棗形の茶筒は黒地の上に温かみのある半透明の赤を地として、本体周囲には七福神（恵比須、大黒天、毘沙門天、弁才天、福禄寿、寿老人、布袋尊）が繊細な金蒔絵で描かれています。光沢のある深い色調と繊細な線描は、古典的な漆技への確かな基盤と長年の茶道の修行を反映しています。
【作家略歴】
中村早都（1932年生）は石川県出身の漆芸作家で、十四歳の時から父親の下で九室塗りを学び始め、その後僧侶の中尾宗和から茶道の指導を受け、1980年代を通じて国際漆芸展で多数の受賞作を制作しました。1987年には茶名「宗況」を授与され、1992年には茶道の准教授として認められました。彼の作業は棗、茶筒、香筒など茶室の道具を中心に、真塗や加賀蒔絵といった伝統的な漆技と、自然を思わせる洗練された感性を融合させています。
