山根清玩（Yamane Seigan）による大胆に手づくりされた萩焼のぐい呑み（ guinomi ）で、彼の代名詞ともいえる孔雀釉（くじゃくゆう）で仕上げられています。
この杯は粗く、力強く手で形作られた不規則で有機的なシルエットを持ち、釉は器の凹凸に自然に溜まり、滴り落ちるように流れます。深く虹色を帯びた青が、黒褐色の粗い地肌から浮かび上がり、孔雀の羽のきらめく羽毛を連想させる斬新で個性的な効果を生み出しています。これは作家の代名詞となっている特徴的な表現です。素地の足縁は未釉で、粗目の鉱物フレークを含む萩の土が露わになっています。
【作家プロフィール】
山根清玩（1952年生）は山口県萩市生まれ。1987年に陶芸へ転向し、独学で成形を学び、1年足らずで窯を自作した後、釉薬の化学と土の組成の研究を自ら進めました。1990年には萩焼まつり第3回展へ招待出品され、来場者の評判を得て、その後同まつりへ計13回出品しました。自らの萩焼窯「光彩庵（ Kosai-an ）」を開窯。1992年には「青萩（Ao-Hagi）」の研究を始め、やがて独自の特徴的な釉薬を完成させ、「清玩の青（Seigan Blue）」として知られるようになりました。作品は日本全国で個展を重ね、神戸・芦屋・大津などで発表され、伊勢丹（京都）、大丸（大阪）、阪急（大阪）、三越・松坂屋（名古屋）、そごう（大阪）などの大手デパートにも取り上げられています。
