絹の上に墨で描かれた、洗練された四曲屏風（byōbu）で、優美に花開く花菖蒲（かきつばた）が描かれています。
優雅な花は細長い葉の房から立ち上がり、透き通るような絹地の地に対して、静謐で美しくバランスの取れた非対称の構図を生み出します。
左下に署名されています。屏風は黒漆の額縁に収められています。
Byōbu（屏風）は直訳で「風よけの屏風」。伝統的な日本の折りたたみ屏風で、元々は空間を区切るために作られ、現在は何よりも印象的な壁掛け絵として評価されています。
