淡い青色のガラスから吹き上げられた古代ローマのアンゲンタリウム。おそらく香水瓶として用いられたものでしょう。器には平らで広い外縁があり、長く細い筒状の首がベル型の胴へと外向きに曲がり、非常にわずかな溝で飾られています。底はやや凹んだ形です。美しい虹色光沢と地表の鉱物状の付着物に覆われています。
アンゲンタリアは、ローマの吹きガラス製品の中でも最も一般的な物のひとつでした。大量生産され、 expensive な香油や美容用オイルを保管する日常使いの品として用いられました。小さな胴体と口は、ゆっくりと慎重に注ぐのに適しており、ガラスは不透過性・不吸収性の性質のため、液体を保つ容器として好まれました。紀元1世紀には、ガラス吹き技術がガラス製作の技術を革新しました。新しい技術により、各器のガラス使用量を小さく抑え、壁を大きく薄くすることが可能になり、その結果、新しい形の薬用、香 incense、香水の容器が生み出されました。
