クラウディオ・カスティリオーニが、エリック・ビュエルが1986年に何を企てていたのか（その逆も）知っていたら、この物語の結末は全く違っていたかもしれない。ビュエルがスポーツバイクをクルーザーのエンジン周りに作ろうとしていたのに対し、イタリアの実業家は、スポーツバイクのエンジンを中心に据えたクルーザーでアメリカ市場に進出しようと計画していた。後者の実験は市場で成功には至らなかったが、競合を軽く上回る魅力的で完成度の高いオートバイを生み出し、その欧州の雰囲気を持ってグラマー任務にひとひねりを加えた。
イタリアン・コネクション
タンクの上の名称にも関わらず、ドゥカティ・インディアはドゥカティが作ったものではなく、カギーヴァが製造していた。1950年にイタリア・ヴァレーゼでジョヴァンニ・カスティリオーニによって創業されたカギーヴァ（CAstiglioni-GIovanni-VArese）は、エレクトロニクスで財を成し、しかし1978年、ジョヴァンニの二人の息子クラウディオとジャンフランコの指導の下でオートバイの製造を開始し、ハーレーダビッドソンの旧アエルマキ製作所の跡地を買収した。
ドゥカティ・インディアは1986年から1988年まで生産された。
それはクルーザーモデルで、通常のドゥカティとは大きく異なる。650 Pantahエンジンは空冷で、クラシックな90度Vツイン、Desmodromic バルブ機構を採用している。馬力の調整は穏やかである。
