Description
A finely hand-painted antique porcelain portrait plaque by KPM Berlin, depicting an elegant young lady wearing a dark ribbon and a fur-trimmed garment.
The portrait is exceptionally delicately painted, with particular attention given to the subject’s facial expression, translucent skin tones, softly modelled hair and blue-grey eyes. The restrained colours and refined shading demonstrate the high level of craftsmanship associated with quality KPM portrait plaques of the late 19th century.
The reverse of the porcelain bears the impressed KPM sceptre mark, together with an impressed letter “H”, as shown in the photographs.
The porcelain plaque is mounted in a large and highly decorative gilt frame with a deep burgundy velvet-style surround. The frame is of a later date and is not original to the porcelain plaque. It was added for protection and display.
